Konami and director Christoph Gans have released new updates on the upcoming Silent Hill reboot, Return to Silent Hill , including plot details, cast news, and hints of new monsters.
The first Silent Hill film directed by Hans was released in 2006, based on a screenplay by Roger Avery based on the popular Konami horror game. It depicts a frightened mother searching for her lost adopted daughter in an abandoned town surrounded by an evil community guarded by underground coal mine fires and terrifying monsters. Then, in 2012 , Silent Hill: Revelation was set in the same universe. Written and Directed by M.J. Bassett, the sequel follows another young woman with a sinister connection to the town and its cursed inhabitants.

According to Deadline, the concept behind Return to Silent Hill has its roots in the mythology of the games and movies. This time, Jeremy Irvine ( War Horse ) plays James, in a town with a layered and gruesome history, as Hannah Emily Anderson ( Sa, X-Men: Dark Phoenix ) searches for the woman she loved and lost. The horror "film is about James (Irwin), a broken man after being separated from his only love (Anderson), " reads the official synopsis. “When a mysterious letter calls him to explore Silent Hill, he finds the once-familiar city transformed by an unknown evil. As James descends deeper into the darkness, he encounters terrifying characters both familiar and new and begins to question his sanity. He begins to realize reality and finds his lost love. He's trying to stay long to save himself."
The plot highlights the hero and heroine's journey underground, which is repeated throughout the franchise and often includes giant monsters and threats, including the terrifying mutant nurse and a sword-wielding pyramid head. However, producer Victor Hadida promised a brand new set of creature models and more creative expansion for the game's existing villains in the new sequel: "Christophe and I are collaborating with our partners at Konami to develop and update the game. "It's a version of Silent Hill for modern theatergoers . "You'll still find the iconic monsters, but they'll have a new design," Hadida said We're confident that this new film and Konami's updated game together will be the driving force behind the franchise for years to come."
While reviews of the first two Silent Hill adaptations were mixed among both horror fans and avid gamers, the film franchise, like the game, did a great job of building on its world-building strengths and creating a vivid horror atmosphere. Expanding on the game's mysterious New England town, Hans and Avery set up a West Virginia -ridden Silent Hill , plagued by underground coal fires, based on the real-life ghost town of Centralia, Pennsylvania. Since this episode is being written by new writers, fans of the game and previous films will be interested to see what Hans and his new writers Sandra O-Ann and William Joseph Snyder bring to the table.
Return to Silent Hill will begin shooting next month in Germany and Eastern Europe
