It's hard to believe that horror fans are only a month away from the release of the highly anticipated Scream VI . The slasher brought blood-soaked horror from Woodsboro to the streets of New York. The first full trailer, released in January, showcases a much darker film than fans of the meta-franchise are used to seeing. But thanks to Alamo Drafthouse, a new Scream VI synopsis doubles down on the darkness of that final episode and the trauma that sisters Sam ( Melissa Barrera ) and Tara Carpenter ( Jenna Ortega ) endured. Considering this is a detailed plot description, beware of spoilers.

Mamie said:

As the survivors of the recent attack in Woodsboro travel to New York to attend college, our youngest daughter, Tara, begins to have a mental breakdown when she sees the ghost of a killer from the past. Meanwhile, his sister Sam tries to manipulate him by pretending to be Ghostface. But when their plans fall apart, three new costumed killers arrive on the scene, leaving the question of who will survive and who will be the final victim.

Although the trailers have been out for a few weeks, there is still a lot of mystery about this New York murder plot. That changes with this frankly insane synopsis. One star, dubbed "our last girl" in the film, is far from successful in the mental health department. Scream VI seems to really explore the lingering effects of trauma, which is a new angle for the film series. Trauma is a big factor in Scream: The TV Series , but the movies rarely touch on its soul, despite being central to the plot of the murder of the five Ghost Faces, as shockingly as Sidney Prescott. Sydney's absence seems to have hurt more in the storytelling department this time around, and Sam and Tara are still too new characters to do anything too drastic with them.

However, the new headline for all Scream fans is that they've "seen a ghost killer from the past". There are many theories in one sentence. You can take this phrase literally from watching the stars of your favorite franchises like Billy ( Skeet Ulrich ), Stu ( Matthew Lillard ), Jill ( Emma Roberts ) or Amber ( Mike Madison ). The latter is Tara's best friend. However, Scream has always been a reality-based franchise, and with some elements of Scream 2022 , notably Sam's vision of his father Billy, directors Matt Bettinelli-Volpin and Tyler Gillette insisted it was a hallucination. not a ghost.

The biggest takeaway from this synopsis is that there may be one or more assassins in the past who, thought dead, are still alive. It also confirmed that there were three killers this time around, and fans have claimed for years that past Ghostfaces like Stu are still alive, although Williamson denies the theory. However, the Ghostface temple in the trailer adds fuel to the fire. Another major focus of Scream VI is Sam's remaining monsters. It's a safe bet that we'll see Ulrich as Billy, making Sam's life hell. However, Sam points out that Ghostface is another interesting piece of the sword puzzle as he briefly "manipulates" Tara. As written, it seems that Sam did this to overcome the fears caused by the events of the fifth film. They're trying to enjoy college life like Sydney in Scream 2 , but the real Ghostface isn't far behind in this killer franchise.

Scream VI hits theaters in New York and elsewhere on March 10, 2023. Judging by this new synopsis, this latest film looks to be the craziest and darkest installment in the franchise yet. While horror fans wait for March, you can watch the Scream VI trailer below.
