The film tells the story of a unique kindergarten in the heart of Paris that takes in adults with mental disorders and provides them with time- and place-specific care to help them recover or cheer up.
Introducing the film, judging panel Kristen Stewart said the film was "brilliantly made" and "a cinematic testament to the vital need for human expression."
Other international award winners include Philippe Garrel, who won the Silver Bear for Best Director for his latest film , The Great Chariot (The Plough) . Berlin introduced its awards for gender-neutral acting in 2021 and the winner of the Silver Bear for Best Leading Role of the Year went to child actress Sofia Ortero for her screen debut in 20,000 Species of bees, while the Silver Bear took home the award for Best Supporting Actor. German director Angela Chanel won the Silver Bear for Best Music Screenplay and French cinematographer Hélène Loufar Giacomo won the Silver Bear for Outstanding Artistic Contribution for her work on The Abruzzo Disco Boy .

The film was screened out of competition as part of a special festival at the Berlinale Palace.
The international competition jury was chaired by actress Kristen Stewart. She was joined by Iranian-French actress Gullshift Farahani, German director Valesca Grisbach, Romanian director Radu Jude, American director and producer Francine Messler, Spanish director Carla Simon and legendary Hong Kong director and producer Johnny To.
This year, Steven Spielberg was awarded an honorary Golden Bear. The legendary jazz director personally accepted the award on Tuesday, giving an impassioned speech at the Berlinale Palast.
