INT'L FALLS, Minnesota ; Cinema 5, the only movie theater within 60 miles of International Falls, has announced it will close Tuesday, February 28 due to plumbing issues.

The ad appeared on several Facebook posts Thursday. The owners said the reason for the closure was an ongoing problem with the plumbing.

"Yes, we're closing due to piping issues. This needs to be fixed by March 3rd or I'm going to be shut down until it's fixed. We tried to fix it, but the leak wasn't where it should be. When it snows, the ground is too expensive for me to fix now. it's easy to fix in the spring and a lot cheaper than it is now, but the city won't allow it. That's why I've worked in and out of International Falls."

Meanwhile, Harley Dropa, the mayor of International Falls, addressed the issue in his statement on Facebook.

In December 2022, International Cascades City learned of a fire hose leak at Cinema 5. In January 2023, the city granted Cinema 5 a conditional fire hydrant repair license. To ensure public safety. International City of Falls agreed. helping businesses find leaks in rural water supply lines for free. The city offers Cinema 5 a 60-day window. However, due to public safety concerns and the lack of adequate fire suppression systems, the state fire department recommended that it recently order Theater 5. remain closed until fire lines, sprinklers and toilets are in place.

Currently, the latest opening date for Cine 5 is Tuesday 28th February. But if the owners want to continue the film, they said they are ready to make an offer.

Many people in the small community and beyond are expressing their feelings about the internet outage.

One comment reads: "Mom of a teenager who loves hanging out with friends gets upset when we lose a safe place for them to hang out. So are our family outings."

Another said in part: "I've lived in a pod most of my life and we've made hundreds of trips to the falls to see movies. Since 2008, maybe before. It's so sad to hear that theater come alive in my memory."
