The trailer for Arnold Schwarzenegger's first comedy series is here. The Netflix original, titled FUBAR , short for "fucked after repair," follows Schwarzenegger as a retired CIA agent involved in one final mission.
In the first trailer for FUBAR, Schwarzenegger returns to his action movie roots, watching the star jump on a motorcycle, race a sports car and shoot a gun between scenes. Here's a synopsis of the Netflix show:
A retired CIA agent reveals a family secret. Forced to return to the field for one last job, the series explores universal family dynamics in a global context of espionage, action and humor.
In addition to Schwarzenegger, the eight-episode series will also star Monica Barbaro, Jay Baruchel, Fortune Feimster, Milan Carter, Travis Van Winkle, Gabriel Luna, Andy Buckley, Aparna Briel, Barbara Eve Harris and Fabiana Udeño.
"Everywhere I go, people ask me when I'm going to make another great action movie like 'True Lies.' Well, here it is,” Schwarzenegger said in a statement, “ FUBAR will kick your ass and make you laugh, and not just for two hours. You have a full season.
Directed by James Cameron and starring Jamie Lee Curtis and Tom Arnold, True Lies remains one of the best American action films ever made, even nearly 30 years later. So FUBAR has a very high bar. What makes "True Lies" so compelling is the relationship that develops between Schwarzenegger and Curtis' characters, and it's unclear whether the series will have a similar interesting relationship.
But the trailer gives us terminator jokes and kicks to the groin, even more common 90s action comedies, so who knows. Throw in a Harrier jet and it could be a good sequel.
FUBAR will premiere on Netflix on May 25, 2023.
