- AMC Theaters announced new on-premise prices on Monday.
- Seats in the middle of the theater cost extra, unless you subscribe to the AMC membership program.
- This is the latest evolution of dynamic pricing in theaters.
If you want to sit in the middle of the theater at the AMC location, you'll have to pay extra.
AMC Theatres, the world's largest theater chain, announced Monday the pricing of new seats under the AMC StyleLine brand. Pricing is flexible for any showtimes after 4 p.m. and does not apply to "Tuesday specials," AMC said.
Here are the new pricing details:
- Standard View are the most available seats at a standard fare.
- Value View includes both front row seats and individual ADA seats.
- Selected flower lines are located in the center of the room and are sold at a higher price.
Here's the catch: Value Sightline is only available to members of AMC's A-List AMC Stubs subscription program. It's AMC's answer to MoviePass, where subscribers can watch up to three movies a week for a monthly fee.
Plus, A-list members don't have to pay extra for certain line-of-sight seats.
AMC has already introduced the Sightline in several locations and plans to roll it out to all U.S. locations later this year.
The move could be a way for AMC to increase its A-list membership, but it's the latest shift toward dynamic pricing in theaters, which until recently focused more on pricing that varied by film or format, not necessarily by location not.
Last weekend, M. Night Shyamalan's Knock on the Cab led the box office with $14.2 million, followed by 80 for Brady with $12.5 million.
But more people saw the latter, with 1.3 million for "80 for Brady," according to Enttelligence, which tracks theater attendance, compared with 1.1 million for "Cabin Knock."
The company says the average ticket price for "80 for Brady" over the weekend is $9.79, while "Knock on the Cab" is $12.30.
