MUNICH --ARRI introduces a new line of fingerprint filters with eight V-shaped fingerprint filters that add a vintage touch to Signature Prime and Zoom lenses.
Four negative and four positive diopter filters gradually change the focal characteristics of the image, allowing you to create a discrete array in Super 35 or large format with a single set of Signature lenses.
Fifth impression filters are the first in a new series of ARRI impression filters. It offers an affordable way to achieve multiple looks with one set of lenses and is designed as a new creative option for Signature Prime and Signature Zoom lenses. It's easy to swap out using the magnetic rear filter assembly, the company says, while maintaining the lens's scale accuracy.
Traditionally the diopters are placed in front of the lens to reduce the close focusing distance, but ARRI's new Impression V filters are very different, the company explains.
When attached to the back of Signature lenses via the integrated magnetic filter adapter on the back, they change the appearance of out-of-focus image elements. Known as bokeh, these elements play an important role in the emotional impact of photographs. All the bokeh is caused by the Impression V filters, but this is particularly evident in backlighting, which gets a "round" effect (light around the edges) with negative filters and a more "freezing" effect (light in the center) with positive . The Filters Overall, Positive Filters have a nostalgic and crazy look with rounded bokeh, bright skin tones and softer backgrounds; Negative filters look more refined, however, with dense, vibrant bokeh and backgrounds, the company said.
The four positive impression V filters are designated IV 070P, IV 140P, IV 230P and IV 330P, while the four negative filters are IV 050N, IV 100N, IV 200N and IV 290N.
In both cases, the increasing number indicates a greater effect of the diopters. Impression V filters are intended for use at T1.8, where the effect is strongest and lens performance remains accurate. Positive filters attach directly to the back of every Signature lens, while negative filters first attach a wafer to the back of the lens. The company explains that the T1.8 has a 2mm wafer for shooting and a 1.85mm wafer as the foundation for the additional color required for high-stop shooting with Signature Zooms or Signature Primes.
ARRI says its Impression V filters work with its latest cameras: ALEXA 35, ALEXA Mini LF, ALEXA LF and ALEXA 65. The filters are sold in a kit that includes eight positive and negative diopters, as well as a set of shim, adjustable camera . a dynamic screwdriver for applying filtered lenses, grease, and embossed Velcro labels to the kit, all packaged in a custom aluminum flight case. For customers who don't need the full set or perhaps don't need repairs, each of the eight filter types can be purchased in a set of three, including foam buttons, Velcro tabs, and negative filter paper. mounting Velcro and paper kits are also available separately.
Impression V filters and filters that can be installed on lenses without the need for a trained lens technician, ARRI recommends making decisions about the type of filter to use before shooting whenever possible. When the T1.8 stops, productions that prefer a positive view can quickly and easily switch all four positive filters, while productions that prefer a negative view can pre-link shims and switch between the four negative filters in the group. Shims may also be added or removed from the kit, depending on crew, location and special circumstances.
As with all ARRI products, Impression V filters and seals are manufactured to the tightest tolerances and highest standards of precision and quality. Once installed, the lenses will perform as reliably as they did at the factory.
