"I still have to prove why I paid," said the Oscar-nominated actor, who felt "cruelly cheated" by Hollywood.

Djimon Hounsou Talks Hollywood Deals.

The two-time Academy Award nominee said in an interview with The Guardian published on Thursday that he feels "very cheated" by the film industry.

"Today we talk a lot about Oscar being white, but I remember there was a time when I didn't have any support," she said. “There is no support from my people, no support from the media, no support from the industry itself. You should be happy to be nominated,” I thought, and that was it.

Khonsu, 58, has been nominated for the Academy Award for Best Supporting Actor for his roles in America In America (2003) and Blood Diamond (2006).

"I still have to prove why I have to pay," he told the Guardian . "They always come to me in a very reserved way: 'We're just for this role, but we really like you and we think you can bring a lot to the game.'"

"Viola Davis said it beautifully: She won an Oscar, she won an Emmy, she won a Tony, and she still didn't get paid," Hounsou said. “Making films is a struggle. I haven't found a movie that pays me well yet.

However, Khonsu respects his leading role in Shazam! Wrath of the Gods as a witch who gives Billy Batson superpowers.

"Out of all of them, the DC Universe commands a certain level of respect," said Hounsou. "At first it wasn't much on paper and I did it and it was fun. But the second time around it was more respectful."

“Sometimes [Hollywood] definitely says, ‘We need to give him more, he’s a little low. "I think they accepted it themselves." Khonsu continued, "Oh, this is a battle I have to survive!"

Shazam! Wrath of the Gods is the sequel to Shazam! It was released in 2019. The film follows the story of Billy Batson, who also starred in “SHAZAM!” By saying the magic word. - He is struck by the lightning of the gods he lives in and transforms into an adult superhero alter ego.

Zachary Levi returns as the main protagonist alongside Asher Angel, who reprises his role as Shazam's teenaged Billy Batson.
