ALIEN Reboot Adds More Names To Its Cast; Plot Synopsis Promises A Back To Basics Approach For Franchise

20th Century Studios has announced (via SFFGazette.com) that production on the new Alien movie starring Kyle Spain ( Easttown Mare ) will begin in Budapest on March 9.

The cast is further expanded with the addition of David Johnson ( "The Industry "), Archie Reno ( "Shadow and Bone "), Spike Fern ( "Batman "), Eileen Wu ( "Far From Home ") and the recently announced Isabella. Merced (" Rosalina "). The latter is probably the biggest name here, but some recently revealed plot details may explain why the reboot didn't have an A-list cast.

"In this ninth installment of the wildly popular and enduring film series," reads the official synopsis, "a group of young men from a distant world encounter the most terrifying life form in the universe."

It looks like the franchise is finally going back to basics, a relief from Prometheus and Aliens . After the confusing incident of Dr.

Fede Alvarez ( The Evil Dead , Spider Girl , Don't Breathe ) directs from a script he co-wrote with regular collaborator Rod Sayazes. Ridley Scott, who directed the original "Alien" and produced and directed the last two episodes, and Michael Pruse ( "Boston Strangler ") are producing under the Scott Free banner.

Brent O'Connor ( Bullet Train ), Elizabeth Cantillon ( The Quest ) and Tom Moran ( The Donut King ) executive produce.

We don't have a release date for the film, and it's unclear if it will hit theaters like Pray on the Hulu streaming platform right away.

It was previously reported that Alvarez proposed a new Alien film to Scott a few years ago, and that the legendary director approached him several years ago about making it. We'd be shocked if there wasn't some connective tissue to the original franchise here, but don't expect any of these characters to have the last name "Ripley."

Stay tuned to SFFGazette.com for the latest Alien reboot updates we have.
