Note: The following contains spoilers for the Bachelor season 27 premiere .
"The Bachelor" gets off to a dramatic start as Zach Shallcross welcomes 30 women into the iconic Bachelor mansion, trusting his instincts and putting his best preseason moments behind him. The first rose ceremony. But before Zack can begin the ceremony, a heated confrontation seals one woman's fate.
Madison hits the spot with a potty talk with the man of the hour after Zach realizes he's kissed off some of their previous conversations, culminating in a heated embrace. But that wasn't enough for Madison, as she stole him away for another chat, which quickly ended with a kiss. This kiss sparks a revealing conversation about the (lack of) chemistry between the two before Zach finally sends Madison home, just before the rose ceremony.
"You can't force it, if it's not there, it's not there," Zack told TheWrap. "If I carry him any longer, I will make him and myself evil."
Acknowledging the "sacrifice it takes to be here" and noting that the contestants are away from family, friends and work, Zach realistically addresses Madison's lack of spark, saying that "he" can't make it happen. [chemistry] happens magically. .
"It was very difficult," he recalls. "I wish her the best, but you can't force that feeling. You can't force love, you can't force any of it, so I just wanted to be open and honest with her and not waste her time." .
Despite the tough times, Zach shares lip curls with the contestants on the first night, including Greer, his pinky first impression, adding his dream of living with Zach in his "final destination" of Austin, Texas.
“When I was trying to figure out who to make a first impression on, I realized tonight is absolutely ridiculous — she's going a million miles an hour,” Zach told TheWrap. "I remember my time with Grayer, and I felt in a very peaceful and comfortable place during that time... I felt like I was in nature."
For the first bachelor, Grayer's kind and sometimes silly game of moving from Houston, Texas, to the Big Apple gives Zach the break he needs as he begins to attract many women to the house who hope to live with him.
"I didn't realize at the time that I needed to step away from it all and breathe," he said. "It was good that she could propose to me tonight."
New episodes of The Bachelor air Mondays at 8pm ET/PT and 7pm CT on ABC.
